Rev. Dr. Donald A Webb

The recipient of the
2010 Samaritan of the Year Award

Dr. Webb
was born in 1926 in a Welsh mining village, from which
scholarships took him to a good school and on to Cambridge
University. He served as a Royal Navy officer in World War
II, completing his service as captain of the minesweeper H.M.S.
Switha. He immigrated with his family to the United States
in 1953 to become a Methodist Pastor. His degrees include
a Master of Divinity and a Ph.D. in theology, literature and
psychology.
He lives
in Shreveport with his lovely wife, Renee. Together they
have 5 children, 9 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren.
Many
in the Shreveport area know him from when he was President of
Centenary College 1977-1991. Since retiring from
Centenary, Dr. Webb has served as Interim Senior Pastor for
First United Methodist Church, Shreveport, St. John’s U.M.C.
Baton Rouge and Ellerbe Road U.M.C.
The Samaritan of the Year award is presented annually to an
individual who has made significant contributions to human
health and growth, demonstrated religious sensibility in their
work, and personally exemplifies the ideals of the Samaritan
ministry. The proceeds from the banquet will enable the Center
to continue to help those who come for counseling, regardless of
their ability to pay standard fees.

Board of Directors was especially proud
to honor the Reverend Dr. Donald A
Webb for his dedication to humanity and his years
of Samaritan-like service.
