Mrs. Baldwin is a licensed marriage and family therapist. She has been with the center since 2002. She provides staff development and educational workshops for the community. Topics include healthy relationships, dating abuse, domestic violence, conflict resolution, parenting, stress management and communication.

PTSD - Taming the Beast!

Traumatic memories are unsettling at best and terrifying at worst. Once we see them for what they are, they become more and more like the child's Jack-in-the-Box, with power still to startle, but no longer to interfere significantly in our lives. In this series of seminars, Reverend Bryan McDowell will explain ways to “Tame the Beast!”

Reverend Bryan McDowell, Associate Pastor of First Presbyterian Church Shreveport (www.fpcshreveport.org) is a 1970 graduate of the United States Air Force Academy, served a tour of duty in the Vietnam War as a helicopter pilot for combat search and rescue; has worked at the Shreveport Vet Center as a Readjustment Counselor; and volunteers to help veterans in the church and in the community.

The Samaritan Counseling Center offers educational and consulting services as well as individual and family counseling. The center works with individual businesses and their staff to develop personal skills that encourage better working relationships and individual productivity. These new skills can have a positive impact on reaching company goals.

Staff Development Seminars can be scheduled on a one-time, weekly or monthly basis.

Seminar series includes:

STRESS MANAGEMENT
There are physical, emotional and relational symptoms of stress exhaustion. This workshop includes a personal profile to identify the physical and emotional levels of stress exhaustion and will teach strategies for managing those areas that are within our control.

CONFLICT RESOLUTION/ANGER MANAGEMENT
Communication issues may derail personal and company goals. This seminar will help attendees become aware of ineffective communication styles and anger triggers, and will teach skills that increase good communication and defuse anger.

TEAM BUILDING
This presentation is designed to encourage trust in work relationships by identifying personal strengths, promoting an understanding of individual personalities, and utilizing exercises that improve positive interaction.

OTHER
Additional topics can be identified according to the needs of the organization.
